How to apply tyre shine

Tyre shine gives sidewalls a dark, well-kept finish. For an even result, apply it to a clean, dry tyre and wipe off the excess.

Step by step

  1. Clean the tyre and the wheel

Remove brake dust, oil and road grime from the sidewall. A dedicated wheel cleaner makes the job easier for the wheel itself.

  2. Rinse and dry completely

Tyre shine is only applied to a clean, dry surface. On a wet tyre the product will not spread and can run.

  3. Apply the product

For gels, use an applicator sponge or cloth; for sprays, spray onto the sidewall. Autocher Mad Max Tire Shiner is a concentrate; using it neat is recommended for the best result.

  4. Spread it evenly

With a clean cloth or sponge, spread the product into an even layer across the sidewall.

  5. Wait a few minutes and wipe off the excess

Let the product settle, then take off the excess with a clean cloth. This reduces sling onto the paint while driving.

  6. Keep it off the tread and the brakes

Do not apply the product to the tread surface that touches the road or to the brake discs and pads.

Things to watch

  • A clean, dry surface decides the result; shine applied to a dirty tyre will look uneven.
  • For a more natural look, start with a little product and wipe off the excess; apply a second coat for a stronger shine.
  • Keep tyre shine away from brake discs, pads and the tyre tread.
  • Durability depends on weather, washing frequency and use; reapply when needed.

This guide is general information; the directions on the product label always take priority for ratios and timings.

Frequently asked questions

Is gel or spray better?

Gels usually give a deeper, longer-lasting shine and are applied in a controlled way with a sponge; sprays are quick and convenient. It comes down to preference.

Can it be used on plastic and rubber parts?

Besides tyres, Autocher Mad Max Tire Shiner can be used on floor mats, door seals and other rubber and plastic parts. Test on a small hidden area first.

Does it make the tyre slippery?

It must not be applied to the tread surface that contacts the road. Apply it to the sidewall only and wipe off the excess.
