How to use a DPF cleaner additive
A DPF cleaner additive is added to the fuel tank to help reduce soot build-up in the diesel particulate filter and make the filter's regeneration (self-cleaning) easier. It is a preventive maintenance product.
Step by step
- Make sure the vehicle is a diesel with a DPF
The product is for DPF-equipped diesel vehicles and is not used in petrol cars. If unsure, check the vehicle manual.
- Check the dashboard warnings
If the DPF warning light is on or the car has lost power (limp mode), a workshop check may be needed instead of an additive.
- Add the product just before refuelling
One 300 ml bottle of Autocher DPF Cleaner Additive treats roughly 40–60 litres of fuel. Adding it to an empty or low tank makes mixing easier.
- Then fill up with fuel
Refuelling helps the additive mix thoroughly with the fuel.
- If possible, drive 15–20 minutes on an open road
Steady driving at medium-to-high revs supports the filter's regeneration. Short city trips are often not enough for regeneration.
- See a workshop if symptoms continue
If the filter is completely blocked, an additive alone will not solve it; an authorised workshop check is needed.
Things to watch
- The additive is preventive and supportive; it does not repair a fully blocked filter.
- Short trips at low revs increase soot build-up; an occasional longer drive at steady speed helps the filter.
- When a warning light comes on, do not keep driving for long; have it checked.
- Follow the label for the amount and how often to use the product.
This guide is general information; the directions on the product label always take priority for ratios and timings.
Frequently asked questions
When should a DPF cleaner additive be used?
Typically for regular preventive care or when short-distance use makes soot build-up likely. Check the product label for how often to use it.
Will it clean a blocked DPF?
No. It helps reduce soot build-up and supports regeneration; if the filter is completely blocked, a workshop check is needed.
Can it be used in petrol cars?
No. A DPF cleaner additive is for diesel vehicles with a DPF.
